Hybrid training has become one of the more talked-about corners of group fitness, and if you have seen the term HYROX mentioned around Port Coquitlam gyms without knowing exactly what it means, you are not alone. Here is what hybrid training actually involves, and how to tell whether Saturday mornings at Build Fitness are the right fit for you.

What Hybrid Training Actually Means

Hybrid training blends strength work with sustained conditioning in the same session, rather than training the two qualities on separate days. The idea is simple: build the capacity to keep moving well under load, instead of being strong only when you are fresh or having endurance that falls apart the moment a barbell gets involved. It is a different skill than either strength training or steady-state cardio on its own.

Why Saturday Mornings

At Build Fitness, hybrid training runs on Saturdays at 8:15am and 9:30am — a weekend slot deliberately chosen so it does not have to compete with the working week. Two start times means you can pick whichever fits your Saturday morning better, and like every session here, each one runs 50 to 55 minutes.

What a Session Looks Like

A hybrid session pairs strength work with sustained conditioning in the same 50 to 55 minutes, coached the same way every other class here is coached — with real-time regressions and progressions so the session adjusts to you rather than the other way around. You are not thrown into a format built for competitive athletes and left to figure it out.

Do You Need Race Experience?

No. You do not need to have entered a HYROX race, or any race, to train this way. Hybrid sessions suit anyone who wants their strength and their conditioning to work together instead of taking turns — whether or not you ever plan to compete in anything.

How It Fits With the Rest of Your Training

Hybrid training works well alongside the rest of what we offer — you don't have to choose one program and train it exclusively. Our full hybrid training page covers the format in more depth, and pairing it with conditioning sessions during the week is a common combination for members who want both a Saturday slot and something midweek.

Getting Started

Getting onto the Saturday floor is simple: pick the 8:15 or the 9:30, show up ready to move, and your coach will scale the session as needed. New members can try their first fifteen days of training — Saturdays included — for fifteen dollars, and the full weekly schedule shows everything else running alongside it.

Hybrid training is one way to combine strength and conditioning in a single session, but it isn't the only entry point. If lifting is a newer part of your routine, this piece on why strength training beats endless cardio is a good place to start before working hybrid training in.
